Programme Management in the Private Sector
A blue chip industrial client had been pursuing a major business initiative for a number of years. A small client lead team had been pioneering a programme management approach to the wider initiative. While they had been successful thus far, they needed to consolidate the work they had done and raise the profile of the wider programme. Susan Ferguson takes up the story.
A new facility would enable the client to establish an international distribution capability in an innovative field. There had been significant problems with the heart of the new facility and the client had concentrated on the project management of the core construction project.
But the overall initiative had much wider repercussions. A number of partner organisations were involved, there was an important marketing opportunity to be grasped and there were operational and logistic issues to be handled.
Having experienced the quality of AFA MSP programme management training, they commissioned AFA to audit the programme. The programme was set against a technologically complex background. Nevertheless AFA consultants quickly mastered the complexities of the situation and conducted a short but high level profile of the programme management capability of the client.
Interviews and workshops were held at the highest levels in the organisation. The programme environment was unique, but AFA modified a number of existing assessment models to produce an objective but realistic assessment of the status of the programme. The report was well received by key stakeholders and helped secure the status of programme as it moved into a new and even more challenging phase.
