PRINCE2 in the Private Sector
AFA were approached by a relatively newly formed financial services and utilities solutions provider. Their main aim was to be the leading provider of comparison shopping marketplaces for financial services and utilities products and the leading provider of eIntelligence solutions for the business community. Alan Ferguson takes up the story.
'At the height of the .com boom, venture capitalists were acting as incubators. They funded start up companies with clearly defined targets for revenue and profitably. If a start up did not deliver to plan it was simply closed. For .coms with a technology focus the pressure for projects to deliver was intense. Timescales for major projects were measured in weeks or months, not in years.
A cluster of .coms in Europe needed to be able to reliably deliver projects, in these exacting conditions. They decided to adopt a PRINCE2 as their project management methodology and AFA as their training partner.
Because AFA has been involved in the evolution of PRINCE2 since its inception, we understood how it could be applied in a delivery focussed environment. There was little tailoring of the standard AFA PRINCE2 courses. Not only did the client not want to spend time tailoring training, but the AFA PRINCE2 courses were an excellent basis for training the energetic and motivated .com staff not just to use PRINCE2 but also to understand PRINCE2.
With a sound understanding of how PRINCE2 works, the .com staff were able to able to apply it to their kind of project - streamlined, fast and delivery focussed.'
