Business Health Checks
Governance and Assurance
Fundamental to the successful execution of a project is an effective system of direction and control - the Project Governance Structure.
The senior managers responsible for projects rarely have the discretionary spare time to exercise direct oversight of their projects.
They therefore need to put in an assurance structure. This can be resourced internally but an external Healthcheck can bring objectivity and experience to bear.
Healthcheck
A typical Healthcheck might cover the following topics and many more:
-
Projects
- Are projects recognised as being different from line or process work?
- Are appropriate initiatives managed as projects?
- Is there a list of projects?
- Are projects reviewed by management and if so by whom, in which forum and how often?
-
Project Objectives
- Are project objectives agreed?
- Are they documented?
- Are they maintained during the project?
- Is the project outcome assessed?
-
Project Plan
- Is there a project plan?
- Does it show activities?
- Does it show milestones?
- Is the project broken into any form of lifecycle, stages or phases?
- Are resources identified in the plan?
